Benefits of Working with a Personal Trainer

Achieving fitness goals works differently for every person. While many people excel in group settings, others may need one-on-one instruction and support to progress.  Working with a personal trainer is ideal for individuals who have specific goals, feel uncomfortable in group sessions, or have complex fitness needs. There are many benefits that sessions with a personal trainer can provide.

Assessment

Your personal trainer at the Fond du Lac Family YMCA will begin by questioning you about your health and fitness goals and by performing a fitness assessment. Once your trainer has your baseline information and knows where you’d like to improve, they will develop a personalized training program to help you reach your wellness goals.

Accountability and motivation

Hiring a personal trainer from the Fond du Lac Family YMCA will help you remain motivated and disciplined with your exercise regime. You will feel more accountable to complete your exercise.  While some people can build an effective fitness routine on their own, this idea doesn’t hold true for everyone. If you have a difficult time getting to your fitness classes, completing a full workout session, or feeling motivated to continue, a personal trainer may be exactly what you need.

A trainer provides the structure and encouragement that people who have trouble with self-motivation and self-regulation need, and you will likely be pushed to work harder than if you were exercising alone.  You are able to work with a trainer on your own schedule, fitting in sessions when it works for you.

Equipment and Technique

The Fond du Lac Family YMCA offers all of the major health gym equipment, including cardiovascular machines, weight machines, free weights, mats, medicine balls, kettlebells, TRX, ropes, tires and more. A personal trainer will monitor you to ensure that you’re completing each exercise using correct technique and at the appropriate intensity.

Development of a Non-Judgmental Supportive Relationship

Most people find it easier to reach their fitness goals with the support of another person. For some individuals this support comes from a spouse, family member, or friend, but a personal trainer can also play this role.  When you work with a personal trainer, you have the added benefit of basing your fitness routine on a reliable, consistent professional relationship. You don’t have to worry about your trainer judging you or your fitness level on a personal basis.

Sessions That Account for Your Situation

One of the first things you’ll do with a personal trainer is establish your goals. This step allows you to take real steps toward tangible fitness achievements. For example, personal trainers frequently help individuals train for specific events or reach goals like weight loss, better cardiovascular health, or muscle development.  Under the supervision of a personal trainer, each of your sessions is productive. This knowledge can be helpful to individuals who have trouble seeing results when participating in general fitness routines. Personal trainers ensure that you keep progressing rather than plateauing at a specific fitness level or accidentally focusing on workout activities that don’t actually contribute to your specific goals.

Qualifications

Fond du Lac Family YMCA personal trainers are hired with appropriate certifications such as CPR, AED and first-aid training. They hold certifications from the American Council on Exercise, Aerobics and Fitness Association of America, the American College of Sports Medicine, or similar education.

Individualized or group setting

The Fond du Lac Family YMCA offers individual or group personal training packages. You and a group of friends can work out together and split the cost of your personal training sessions, making them more affordable for all of you.  The friendly rivalry will push you to try harder and offer you the additional motivation you may need.
