Y Helps Support Salvation Army Need Through Donations

The Fond du Lac Family YMCA provides many great opportunities to help your neighbors and share with others who need help throughout the year.  The generosity of others is at the core of the Y’s existence as a nonprofit.  This holiday season, the Y uncovered a need of the Salvation Army and took action to help, through a long underwear drive, “Warm Up to Warm Up.”  The Salvation Army believes in meeting the basic needs of individuals and families, young and old. These basic needs include food, clothing, shelter and household needs.

The Y helped gather donations to help fill this need. Through the drive, the Y accepted donations of long underwear from Y members, staff and the community.  Cash donations were also accepted, that will go towards purchasing long underwear.  The month-long drive ended in a presentation of a check for $1,000 to the Salvation Army, along with a huge, overflowing box of donated long underwear, socks and gloves.  “We are pleased with the incredibly generous donations from our Y members and staff”, said Kim Laws, Director of Mission Advancement.  “It is great to see our members give back to the community and to help fill such a need,” states Laws.
