Y announces SAFETY AWARENESS campaign

The Fond du Lac Family YMCA announces the launch of its new safety-focused campaign, “Safety:  It takes all of us,” to raise Y member, guest and staff awareness of safety and security in our facility, and to ensure that all who enter our facility enjoy a safe, welcoming and comfortable environment. We ask individuals to act in a manner that upholds our core values of Respect, Responsibility, Honesty, and Caring at all times when they are in our facility or participating in YMCA programs.  This comes during a time as we focus on “safety” as the Value of the Month throughout the months of May and June.

“The safety and security of our facility is a high priority of the Y, and staff on our Safety Committee are continuously looking at and are focused on increasing safety measures.”  “It is critical that all staff, members and guests understand how to safely use the facility, said Human Resources Director and Y Safety Committee chair, Kristel Lougher.

Around 1,200 scans to access the Y occur each week day, accounting for nearly 25,000 scans each month from members.  “The Y is a very active facility, offering programs and services to improve our communities health and well-being.  With the growing number of people benefiting from being a part of our Y, and as access to programs, classes and memberships grows and changes, the way we provide building access, monitor the facility and provide support to our members changes,” said Jen Memmel, Director of Membership and Marketing Development.

Some of the more recent changes that have occurred to help increase the safety and security of the building include:

  • Upgraded software that allows staff to better understand who is utilizing the facility, along with a new mobile app for easy check-in for members
  • Changes in guest pass policies and photo/ID policies for Y guests
  • Investment in a full time management staff in the evening hours to serve as a point person for member communication and safety
  • Building signage to promote safety awareness in all areas of the facility

As part of the summer facility improvements planned, security changes are being made and the Y is investing in upgraded camera software and additional cameras in various locations.  In addition, re-configurations in the locker rooms will change sight-lines for staff as they conduct their regular walk-throughs.
