May 15, 2020:

All of us at the Fond du Lac Family YMCA are excited to reopen our doors and welcome you back to the Y.   We are finalizing plans and preparing to slowly re-open starting June 1st, ensuring that we create an environment that is as safe as possible for our members and staff. Your safety, and the safety of our staff and the community, is our ultimate priority.

We are continuing to take the advice from the Fond du Lac County Health Department, the CDC, and the State of Wisconsin, and we continue to work closely with the other thirty Y's in our state. We want to ensure the well-being of our community by following the lead of the experts in our health department.

In order to be prepared while providing a safe environment we will be:

  • Receiving guidance from our local health department.
  • On-boarding AND training staff on our new safety and cleaning protocols they will be asked to follow.
  • Educating staff on the prevention and spread of all germs.
  • Receiving supplies and installing equipment for safety and cleanliness.
  • Posting signage throughout the building to keep members and staff up to date with our safety protocols.

The details we are prepared to share right now are as follows:

  • The Y will open on June 1st to serve our members.  We are finalizing phase 1 of our Reopen Plan and we will share more details next week
  • We will launch Group Exercise classes beginning the week of June 15th.

More information to come in the next weeks.

SAFE AT HOME MEMBERSHIP UPDATE  April 22, 2020:

Print Update

Due to the extension of the Safer at Home Act issued by Governor Evers until Tuesday, May 26th, the Fond du Lac Family YMCA will continue to remain closed, with no scheduled reopen date. Our Y leadership team continues to make plans for a reopen, using guidelines being established by the Badger Bounce Back Emergency Order #31, YUSA, the Fond du Lac County Health Department, and the Wisconsin Department of Health Services.

We are communicating regularly with YMCA’s around Wisconsin to identify how both collectively and individually our organizations will adopt a phased approach to re-opening our facilities. Each phase will be incrementally more inclusive of the programs and services you are accustomed to being offered at the Fond du Lac Family YMCA. These phases will transition in accordance to the Badger Bounce Back order, in order to continue to protect our staff and members from COVID-19.

We will continue to keep you updated on our progress and will roll out our re-opening phases when our plans are established.

We continue to ask you to stay with us so we can help support our community.

We are serving an average of 25 children each week through Child Care offered to children of essential workers.  We continue to employ Child Care staff as well as employees who are essential to keep the Fond du Lac Family YMCA business operations running and members engaged.

SAFER AT HOME

Dear Valued Y member,

Due to the Safer at Home Order by Governor Evers issued on March 24, 2020, the Fond du Lac Family YMCA will continue to remain closed until Friday, April 24th, with no scheduled reopen date, or until a superseding order is issued. Secretary-designee Andrea Palm's Emergency Order #6 remains in effect and our Child Care Center will remain open, with prioritized care for families in our community. We will continue to support our community the best way we can, and right now this means supporting staff working in health care and other vital areas as deemed necessary by this order. We are one of 25 YMCA’s across Wisconsin/U.P. Michigan that is collaborating with local government and health officials to offer care for children of essential employees who need to work, because they directly support the efforts to mitigate the impact the coronavirus has in our communities.

We continue to ask you to stay with us so we can help support our community, our neighbors and our friends who are working during this epidemic, and that includes our amazing Child Care staff. Staying with us ensures our Y can continue to help support those who need us most.

But most importantly, please stay at home, where it is safer for your family and our community.

If you have reached out to us by phone or email with questions about your membership, please know that there may be a delay in responses to phone calls, and email is the preferred communication method for membership inquiries. We appreciate your patience and understanding as we try to do our best to continue to serve our members.

STAY WITH US

Dear Valued Y member,

At this time, as one Y community, we're asking that you stay with us, not as a facility member, but as a cause-driven YMCA member, to continue to support our mission in our community.  Staying with us ensures our Y remains poised to help and support our neighbors who need us most. We realize that not all of you will be able to do that, but if you can, please retain your membership, and stay with us.  It is our strong intention to resume all normal operations as soon as possible. As things change, we will continue to keep you informed. We are grateful for your understanding, your support, your trust, and your prayers.

We are aligning our resources to best support the most pressing needs in our community, and will continue to serve parents who must continue to work.  We continue to follow the Wisconsin Department of Health Services guidelines on Child Care Centers.  The families in our community need safe and reliable places for their children, and our Child Care Center continues to remain open at this time.  We are working with our partners to identify ways we could further expand our services, to help those in our community who need us now, more than ever.

If you are able to STAY WITH US and retain your membership, we thank you.  If you have reached out to us by phone or email with questions about your membership, our staff will be contacting you starting on Monday.  We are directing all membership inquiries to hbell@fdlymca.org, and our staff will respond as soon as possible.

Update March 18, 2020:

YMCA Winter II program update

Dear Fond du Lac Family YMCA program participants,

Thank you for your patience during this unprecedented time. Earlier this week we had made the decision to postpone Winter II programs.  We have pivoted on that decision, and are now making the assumption that we will not be able to fulfill the program time, to complete Winter II session programs.

We ask for your patience at this time, as we plan to have our coordinators contact program participants.

IF YOU WERE ENROLLED IN A WINTER II SESSION, YOU WILL BE CONTACTED.

Our program staff will work as diligently as possible to reach out to the many individuals who were enrolled in our Winter II sessions (for gymnastics and Home School PE it would be the Winter session).

We ask that you consider the option to decline a program credit if you are able to. Being a non-profit, we need your help now more than ever during these trying times.  No matter how big or small that dollar amount may be, declining a program fee now, is helping the Y in the long run, so that we can maintain vital life-changing and life-saving programs.

We want to remain a strong organization that will be able to be there for our community, when we reopen our doors.

The Fond du Lac Family YMCA is committed to be there for those who need us most and we ask that you join us in this effort.  We thank you in advance for helping support our organization and our mission.

With gratitude,

Update March 16, 2020:

Print Update

Fond du Lac Family YMCA to close effective Tuesday, March 17th

Dear Fond du Lac Family YMCA members and community,

As you know, we take the health and well-being of all we serve very seriously. Our leadership team has been monitoring the ever-changing dynamics of the COVID-19 virus.  In the interest of promoting safe public health practices and with the recommendations from the CDC, our local Health Departments, and Kevin Washington, President and CEO of our National Organization, YMCA of the USA, the Fond du Lac Family YMCA is taking action to prevent the spread of COVID-19 and help maintain a healthy community.

We know that the Y is a community hub where youth, active older adults and families gather. But the nature of this virus, and how it spreads, presents significant challenges to how we deliver our mission and strengthen community. With this in mind, we feel it necessary to align with similar decisions being made in our community and our region, and temporarily close our facility.

We are aligning our resources to best support the most pressing needs in our community, and will continue to serve parents who must continue to work.  The Wisconsin Department of Health Services has recommended that Child Care Centers remain open. Our Child Care families need safe and reliable places for their children, and our Child Care Center will remain open at this time.

The operational decisions we are making are in alignment with the idea of “flattening the curve” of the virus spread so that our hospital systems can be responsive to those who are sick in a timely and reasonable manner. We have a duty to help slow the spread of the virus while serving the community in a healthy way.

We are committed to providing as many resources to help you keep up with your fitness.  LES MILLS has further expanded their partnership and are now offering a free at home platform to use, in addition to their 30-day ON-DEMAND free trial.  The free platform has 95 workout options across 9 categories that are ready to play right now. The workouts will remain open and available as long as the Coronavirus situation continues to cause disruption.  You do not have to subscribe in order to access this extra content. They offer something for everyone, including children’s workouts to get everyone in the family moving.

In addition to the Les Mills offers, you can take free group exercise classes right in your own home on YouTube, courtesy of Y360, created by YMCA’s in Wichita, Houston, Charlotte, Twin Cities and Tacoma.  In light of the challenges being faced, content is being made available for the duration of this outbreak. With several classes available ranging from eight to thirty minutes, you will have some options to choose from.  Find Videos Here: Y360.

We will continue to search for unique ways to keep our members motivated and engaged.

As you can see through these various offerings we are able to make available, your Y is committed to be there for those who need us most and we ask that you join us in the effort.  We ask that you continue to invest in your membership so that we can maintain vital life-changing and life-saving programs at the Y, while being able to continue to support our staff.  If you prefer to put your membership on hold, please contact us and we will do that for you, but we invite you to join us in service to others needing our help.

We know your membership is meaningful to you and that meaning lies in the relationships you have built at the Y.  Those relationships are based upon how much you care about our community and want everyone to have the opportunity to thrive – no matter what our world is facing.  Thank you for joining us.

IMMEDIATE CHANGES TAKING PLACE

  1. The Fond du Lac Family YMCA will be closed beginning Tuesday, March 17th until at least Sunday, March 29th We do not have a re-open date at this time. We are monitoring this situation daily and will be providing any updated communications for our members, program participants and staff through email, website and our social media platforms.

  2. The programs for our current Winter II session are postponed due to the facility closure.  We ask for your patience at this time, and we will keep you updated on future decisions regarding programs.

We are closely working with community leaders and will continue to communicate with you on when we will reopen our facility to serve everyone.

In the meantime, we hope that you will join us in our efforts to serve those in our community who need us most.  Thank you for your support as we work diligently to ensure the health and safety of our community.

In service,

JJ Raflik

CEO/Executive Director

Fond du Lac Family YMCA

Update March 15, 2020:

Our leadership team has been meeting all weekend and have additional meetings planned early Monday that will provide our organization guidance and help us assess and establish our next steps. It is our goal to give you updated information for our longer-term plans before the end of the day Monday, March 16th. Thank you for your patience and understanding as we monitor and respond to this health crisis.

Update March 14, 2020:

Print update

With the recent decision by Governor Evers to mandate a statewide closure of all K-12 schools beginning Wednesday, we are asking our community members to work with us during these days and weeks of disruption as we make decisions on the use of our facility. It is our every effort to keep our facility open to members during this crisis, for healthy individuals who would still like to access our building.

By closing schools, our community is being asked to quarantine their children from being in places of mass gatherings. Also, one of the main ways to stay protected is to practice “social distancing.” With that in mind, the Fond du Lac Family YMCA would like to stress that sending your children to the Y could potentially be putting them in an area of mass gathering, especially if a large number of school-age kids showed up at our facility, in addition to members and program participants who choose to utilize the facility for their health needs. While this school closing is putting a great deal of stress on parents, it is being done to protect your children and our community. Please follow up the school closing by keeping them isolated from other children or adults who might be carriers of this virus.

If the Fond du Lac Family YMCA increases in daily attendance because of this school closing, we may be forced to close our facility. As an organization, we are not equipped to staff an influx of school-age children, nor do we feel it is in best interest of our community’s health. Please keep your children home if they are not enrolled in programming. We look forward to when we can open our doors to all of our members without the fear of contamination.

Update March 10, 2020:

At the Fond du Lac Family YMCA, we take your health and safety very seriously. There has been a lot of news about the Coronavirus, known as COVID-19, as well as influenza. Unlike COVID-19, influenza is very prevalent in our community right now. Both viruses have similar symptoms, and both viruses have the potential to make someone very sick. Our community has the potential to mitigate influenzas spread, while at the same time creating good practices to mitigate other illnesses.

There are some simple steps from the Fond du Lac Health Department for us all to follow to help keep ourselves and our community healthy:
•    Get a flu shot. Vaccine is still available at many locations. If you receive the flu vaccine and still get sick, you are less likely to pass the sickness on to other and recovery is quicker.
•    If you or your child is sick, stay home until fever-free for 24 hours without taking any medication to help lessen a fever.
•    Practice good hygiene. Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands. Wash your hands frequently with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. Use hand sanitizers if soap and water is not available, but hand sanitizers do not replace the use of soap and water.
•    Practice social distancing. Keep a friendly distance between anyone who appears to have flu-like symptoms.

At the Fond du Lac Family YMCA, these are some precautions and actions that we are instilling:
1.     YMCA staff that are ill will be sent home and asked to stay out of work until they are symptom   free.
2.     We are asking members who may be ill with a contagious condition to stay home and return to the Y when they are feeling better.
3.     As has been the policy, children in our care are required to stay out of the Y until a minimum of 24 hours after being deemed symptom free or longer if doctor recommended.
4.     Additional hand sanitizer stations are available to all. Antibacterial wipes are currently on back order and when received, we will have them available in our locker rooms.
5.     Locker Room doors will be propped open so that there are fewer hand contact surfaces.
6.     We are asking all members to clean equipment BEFORE and AFTER workouts with antibacterial wipes that we will provide when in stock or disinfectant spray and rags that are available in various areas.
7.     Our staff will be disinfecting hand contact surfaces throughout the facility on a frequent basis.
