{"id":668,"date":"2020-08-26T10:36:47","date_gmt":"2020-08-26T15:36:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.fdlymca.org\/blog\/?p=668"},"modified":"2020-08-26T10:36:47","modified_gmt":"2020-08-26T15:36:47","slug":"ymca-receives-foundation-grant-to-help-support-learning-and-fitness-of-local-k-5-students","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.fdlymca.org\/blog\/2020\/08\/ymca-receives-foundation-grant-to-help-support-learning-and-fitness-of-local-k-5-students\/","title":{"rendered":"YMCA RECEIVES FOUNDATION GRANT TO HELP SUPPORT LEARNING AND FITNESS OF LOCAL K-5 STUDENTS"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">FOND DU LAC AREA FOUNDATION AWARDS THE FOND DU LAC FAMILY YMCA $10,000 GRANT. <\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;The Fond du Lac Family YMCA has been here for over 115\nyears responding to community need, and in 2020 the need is to provide families\nwith a safe space for their kids to learn in the upcoming school year, offering\nworking parents an option for their kids to do just that,&#8221; says Jennie\nMildebrandt, Fond du Lac Family YMCA Director of Program Development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With Fond du Lac schools\ndeciding to open the school year in the Blended Learning Model to students in 5<sup>th<\/sup>\ngrade and under, the Fond du Lac Family YMCA is stepping up to help working\nparents.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Y has developed a program called the Y Learning\nAcademy, offering academic time, physical activity and peer connections in a\nsmall group setting, all with support from staff at the Fond du Lac Family\nYMCA. The program will run during the school year and will provide support to\nchildren in grades K-5.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe Fond du Lac Area Foundation is proud and excited to award the Y a $10,000 grant to help support the Y Learning Academy.  At a time when so many working families were struggling to make plans for their school aged children for the school year, the Fond du Lac Family YMCA stepped up to help fill the need, and created a program to assist families in our community,\u201d said Joe Braun, Executive Director of the Fond du Lac Area Foundation.\u00a0 \u201cThat mindset inspired me to realize that we needed to step up as well, as a community foundation, and help support the Y and families in our community,\u201d said Braun.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;The Y has been\nlistening and responding to community needs for over a hundred years,\u201d says JJ\nRaflik, CEO\/Executive Director of the Fond du Lac Family YMCA. \u201cThe Y Learning\nAcademy follows in line with what our organization is here for.&nbsp; The Y is a cause-driven organization that is\nfor youth development, healthy living and social responsibility, continually investing\nin our community. But it is only through\nthe support of donors that we are able to provide programs and services to help\nbuild a healthier spirit, mind and body for everyone in our community.
