Community invited to School Board Candidate Forum Hosted by YMCA Youth in Government

The community is invited to a School Board Candidate Forum on Wednesday, March 20th at 6pm in the Legislative Chambers of the City/County Government Center located at 160 S. Macy Street in Fond du Lac.  Hosted by the Fond du Lac Family YMCA’s Youth in Government (YIG) program, four high school youth in the program will be selected to moderate the forum, asking questions of participating school board candidates.

In preparation of the forum, a workshop is being held by UW-Extension for the YIG delegation. The workshop will focus on how to host a forum and how to discuss key issues in the school district from the perspective of different stakeholders. Four Fond du Lac School District students from the Youth in Government program will be chosen to moderate the forum.  Those four will be taught how to educate an audience on the issues at hand beyond the workshop.

With School Board elections taking place on April 2nd, the School Board Candidate forum is an opportunity for the community to learn more about the candidates, prior to the election. Peggy Breister, Richard Gedemer, Mark Jurgella, and Nick Teifke are running for three seats on the Fond du Lac Board of Education. Breister and Jurgella are incumbents on the Board. Fond du Lac School District Superintendent, Dr. James Sebert, will be giving opening remarks. He will also host a school district referendum Q&A with audience members after the completion of the forum. All are welcome to attend this forum including the media. The forum will be aired on television through Charter’s local channel.
