Informational meeting planned for Youth in Government program offered at the Fond du Lac Family YMCA

Youth in grades 6-12, and their parents, are invited to attend an informational meeting at the Fond du Lac Family YMCA, 90 West Second Street, on Thursday, October 4th from 6:30-7:30 pm.  Attendees will learn more about the Youth in Government program offered at the Y.  Pizza and refreshments will be served.

Youth in Government is a program of the Y which involves thousands of teens nationwide in state-organized, model-government programs. Students from every corner of the U.S. have the opportunity to immerse themselves in experiential civic engagement and to practice democracy. Teens from across every state meet in their local groups to discuss and debate issues that affect citizens of their state and to propose legislation. The program culminates with teens serving as delegates at their state conference, debating bills on the floor of the legislature.

This student-run program has lots of great leadership opportunities.  Participants learn the principles of a democratic society by engaging with their peers in the process of civic action, all while forming their own opinions and speaking their mind.  This Y program runs October 2018 through April 2019, culminating with a weekend-long trip to the state capitol in Madison, held March 1-3, 2019, for the Model Government session.

Registration is now open for the program.  Program fees can be found at fdlymca.org.  For more information about the Fond du Lac Family YMCA Youth in Government program, please contact Ben Giles, Youth in Government Advisor, at bgiles@fdlymca.org or 920.921.3330 x319.
