Fond du Lac Family YMCA plans pool deck resurfacing project

The Fond du Lac Family YMCA plans to resurface their pool deck, a project that will close down the family pool, lap pool, whirlpool and steam room for approximately three weeks.  The Y opened it’s new facility in 2010, and over time the deck has seen repairs on multiple occasions.  “The pool deck is in desperate need of repair which includes stripping away multiple layers of paint,” said Jennie Mildebrandt, Senior Program Director.  Mildebrandt states, “This project will take some time to get down to the bare concrete floor, removing layers of paint, then be left to dry before the resurfacing will begin.  The result will leave the entire aquatics area with a new fresh, clean look for many years to come.”

The resurfacing project will begin on Monday, August 20, 2018, the first day the pool will be closed to members and guests during the project.  The anticipated reopen date is Monday, September 10, 2018.  This is the first day swimming lessons will begin for fall programs, and the first day water fitness classes will resume after the resurfacing.

During the pool shut down, there are options available for Y members who want pool access.  Y members may utilize the Fond du Lac Community Aquatic Center located at 100 W. 9th Street in Fond du Lac, free of charge, for open swim and lap swim.  Y members must show their Y key card to gain access to this facility.  Y members will also be able to take water fitness classes at the Aquatic Center for a reduced fee.

Another option Y members have is to use their Nationwide membership at another area YMCA.  Nationwide Membership enables you to visit any participating YMCA in the United States through membership at your “home” YMCA (your home Y is the local association that enrolled you as a member and collects your membership dues). The Y offers Nationwide Membership because we want to help you reach your health and wellness goals wherever you live, work or travel. Fond du Lac Family YMCA members should provide their key card and photo ID at a participating YMCA facility to gain access.
