Eat. Play. Live Strong. fundraising event set Sept. 30 to benefit LIVESTRONG® at the YMCA program

On Friday, September 30, community members will be attending the Eat. Play. Live Strong fundraiser, comprised of two great events in one day.  Golf enthusiasts will be enjoying 18 holes of golf at the Steve Karls Golf Classic at South Hills Golf & Country Club in the afternoon, followed by an uplifting evening of tasty delicacies and entertaining dueling pianos at the Dining and Dueling Keys event.  Event goers may attend both events, or choose to attend just the evening portion.

As community members gather together for a day of fun, the focus of the festivities is rooted around the LIVESTRONG® at the YMCA program, which offers physical and emotional benefits to local cancer survivors, at no cost to the participants.

Thanks to the Eat. Play. Live Strong. event, survivors can take part in a program that focuses on the whole person.  Participants work with trained staff to build muscle strength and endurance, increase flexibility, improve energy levels, reduce the severity of treatment side effects, restore balance, and improve functional ability to complete everyday tasks.  In addition to physical benefits, the program is also focused on the emotional well-being of survivors and their families by providing a supportive community environment where people affected by cancer can connect during treatment and beyond.

Continued financial support is necessary in order for the Y to offer the LIVESTRONG® at the YMCA program ongoing.  This program is important for survivors who are looking to regain their health and well-being.  “Research shows exercise is the simplest way for cancer survivors to reduce fatigue, improve their mood and bounce back from the debilitating effects of cancer treatment more quickly,” said Greg Giles, CEO and Executive Director of the Fond du Lac Family YMCA.  LIVESTRONG® at the YMCA is for any adult who is currently going through cancer treatment or has gone through some form of cancer treatment (i.e. surgery, chemotherapy, radiation, etc.) in the past.

This fundraising event takes place at South Hills Golf & Country Club, Fond du Lac, on September 30.  Registration is in person at the Fond du Lac Family YMCA or by calling J.J. Raflik at 920.921.3330 x 318.  Event goers may purchase a ticket that includes both the Steve Karls Golf Classic along with Dining and Dueling Keys, or a ticket for Dining and Dueling Keys only.  There is also the opportunity to purchase a table for eight for the evening event, in honor of a survivor.
