ACTIVE KIDS + SAFE KIDS + HEALTHY FAMILIES =
A SAFE AND HEALTHY COMMUNITY
What is Healthy Kids Day?
The Y’s national initiative to improve families’ health and well-being is celebrated at nearly 1,600 Y’s across the country, aims to get more kids moving and learning, so they can keep up the habit all summer long – a critical out-of-school time for kids’ health. Research shows that without access to out-of-school physical and learning activities, kids fall behind academically. Kids also gain weight twice as fast during summer than the school year.
What is the Bike Rodeo?
The rodeo is a bicycle safety clinic focused on cycling safety for young cyclists (ages 5 to 14). As part of this free “Community Block Party”, participants will practice and develop skills that will help them to become better bicyclists and avoid typical crashes. The event will feature bike safety and fit checks, helmet fitting, bike licensing, bike skills training and much more! A highlight of the Bike Rodeo will be the bike obstacle course. Young cyclists will be able to ride on a miniature course where they are shown where and how to apply the rules of the road. The participants will be escorted through the course by an officer who will point out hazards, and offer safety tips and further explanation of the rules of the road. The young bike riders will learn about blind corners, stopping at stop signs, staying off the sidewalks, and yielding to pedestrians, intersections, crosswalks and driveways.
What is the Loop?
The Fond du Lac Loop is a 15.4 mile bicycle and pedestrian pathway designed to facilitate a safe, healthy, enjoyable way for community members to explore our beautiful city and to provide for a cost effective alternative system of transportation. For more information and to view a map of the loop, visit the Loop website. www.fdlloop.com.
